These solid Foot Scrub Cubes with Menthol Crystals not only exfoliate and moisturize tough calluses, but the addition of menthol crystals also soothes and cools feet on contact.
Whether you’re struggling to catch up on last minute shopping, handling the housework or simply standing all day, your feet are taking a lot of punishment. So why not reward them with a little extra love with these foot scrub cubes?
So what are menthol crystals?
Menthol crystals are a natural product that are derived from cornmint essential oil. A naturally occurring solid found in the oil of mint, menthol is extracted by quick freezing the oil to 22°C. At that point the menthol crystallizes into shiny cooling crystals that can be used both in food as well as skin care applications.
As menthol crystals are extra concentrated, recommended usage is up to 2% in food products – think gum! – and 5% in skin care products. In addition, their potency and price makes them a less expensive alternative to other essential oils used for cooling purposes such as peppermint and eucalyptus. Because these crystals dissolve entirely in liquid, they are easily added to everything from toothpaste and throat sprays to salves and medicated creams or gels.
I used a mini silicone ice cube mold for this solid foot scrub recipe. This allows for the easy one-time use of each cube. It also makes them perfectly pack worthy for when you’re headed out of town on business trips or visiting with family over the holidays.
These foot scrub cubes with menthol crystals will make your feet feel amazing, refreshed, and relaxed. Want some more ideas for how to spoil your feet? Check out my posts: Pedi Foot Scrub with Coconut Oil and The Amazing Benefits of a Foot Massage.

Consider adding: Chocolate Mint Lip Balm and Mint Chocolate Whipped Body Butter and either a Peppermint Foaming Sugar Scrub or this lovely Chocolate Mint Foaming Salt Scrub, if you prefer salt scrubs to sugar scrubs.
FOOT SCRUB CUBES WITH MENTHOL CRYSTALS RECIPE
Using a digital scale, weigh out the cocoa butter and sweet almond oil. Combine in a double boiler and heat until melted and the temperature of the mixture is at least 115°F.
Remove from heat. Then weigh out and stir in the menthol crystals.
Once the menthol crystals have dissolved, weigh out and stir in the sugar.
(If you aren’t a fan of the scent of menthol, you can add up to .05 oz. of lavender, peppermint, tea tree or eucalyptus essential oil before you add the sugar to your mixture.)
Allow the mixture to cool slightly, until when stirred, the sugar stays suspended in the cooling cocoa butter and oil. Then pour the scrub into your mold. (You should be able to fill seven of the mold’s cavities.)
Place the mold in the refrigerator until your solid foot scrub cubes solidify.
Once solidified, remove from the mold and store your solid foot scrub cubes with menthol crystals in a cool, dry location.
To use, simply massage a foot scrub cube onto the soles of feet in or out of the shower, then rinse and pat dry. Take extra care to avoid mucous membranes, eyes and other sensitive parts of the body.
