If you want an honest Five Guys Review from someone who just tried it for the first time ever, I have one for ya!
Today I was passing by a Five Guys Burger and Fries in Virginia and had a hankering for a burger. I had recently read that this fast food chain was favored by many American States but I had never tried it. So I decided to have a cheat meal and give it a go.
Long story short, is five guys good? Well, I liked it.
My SO would even go so far as rating it above his favorite go-to burger joint In-N-Out Burger! While I probably don’t agree with him, what I will say is that I think the quality of food served at Five Guys is of a high quality for a fast food place.
Would I visit again? Yes…but on a cheat day! It wasn’t exactly the Raw Milk Diet!
Five Guys Review – I Tried Five Guys for the First Time Ever!
I purchased a Cheeseburger and a Medium Frees for lunch as my cheat day meal.
The Five Guys Menu is pretty small and only consists of a variety of hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hotdogs and sandwiches as well as sides and drinks.
I like the small menu as it has an In-N-Out Burger vibe aka they don’t do much BUT what they do – they do well.
Below is a picture of their current menu.
You can choose from a wide range of five guys toppings or do what I did and go “All the Way” which means you want everything on the burger!
Five Guys Burger Review
I ordered the “All the Way” cheeseburger minus the mushrooms which includes Mayo, Lettuce, Pickles, Tomatoes, Ketchup, Grilled Onions and Mustard.
At a price tag of $10.50 for fast food, I was expecting a pretty smashing burger and for the most part, it did not disappoint.
All the ingredients were very fresh and tasty.
If you look up Five Guys Fast Food Burger Reviews on reddit you will find that some people argue that yes, it is a high price BUT all their ingredients are fresh and not frozen. I can attest to the fact that all the ingredients were indeed very fresh.
So on this occasion I agree the Reddit users, this justifies the more expensive price tag.
The slight negatives of the burger were:
- It was a little sloppy and fell apart a bit as I ate it; and
- It had a bit of a Big Mac taste due to the sauce.
In fairness, you can customize the sauce and opt for a BBQ sauce or Steak sauce instead. This is something that I would definitely try in the future.
Fries Rating – 4/5 (not 5 only because of the slight sloppiness and Big Mac taste)
The fries were clearly hand cut potatoes which I thought was excellent.
I ordered a medium fries, thinking it would be similar in size to a Mcdonald’s medium fries.
I was wrong.
The packet was overflowing with fries. The serving size was very generous, something I have previously read about Five Guys but clearly did not believe.
My slight criticism would be that the chips were over-salted. They were practically drowning in salt which wasn’t to my personal liking but my husband really liked that aspect. I suppose it depends if you are a salt fan!
Fries Rating – 4/5 (not 5 only because I personally didn’t like the over-salted taste)
The store was very cool and had retro old school diner vibes.
I liked it so no complaints there. I think the refill station is far more appealing than most fast food joints.
Rating – 4/5
5 Guys Review on Service
The staff at the Five Guys store I visited in Virginia were absolutely amazing. Very friendly and happy to have a chat but not in an annoying way.
The burger and fries took about 10 minutes to make which I would say isn’t bad as it shows that it is being made fresh to order. Of course, any wait time is annoying but I will forgive them on this, in the circumstances!
Service Rating – 5/5
Now, obviously Five Guys Burger and Fries is not a health food but I really hate thinking I’m eating something stupidly bad so I checked out the Five Guys nutrition information for a break down. They literally break everything down for you so you can opt in and out as you please.
Five Guys Cheeseburger
- Calories: 980
- Carbs: 40g
- Fat: 55g
- Protein: 47g
This information tells me that the burgers are quite unhealthy, something that I already knew. 980 calories with 55gram of fat is pretty high so sadly it isn’t something I can chow down on the daily.
Adding on a regular fries with a calorie count of 980, I already went over my daily calorie limit for the day in one meal. But it sure was tasty!!
If you are worried about your weight or cholesterol but still want to indulge, you can opt for a “Little Cheeseburger” with only 610 and a smaller portion of fries.
Nutrition Rating – 2/5 (pretty bad nutrition wise but I would say better than places like McDonalds due to the fresh salad and better quality meat)
Overall Five Guys Rating – 4/5
I would rate the Five Guys Burger and fries a solid 4 out of 5. I did not take the nutrition into account in my score as it is fast food and shouldn’t be eaten on a daily basis. However, I felt it was healthier than many other choices of fast food out there.
I reduced the score from a 5/5 for the over-saltiness of the fries, the Big Mac taste of the burger and the sloppiness.
For one last time, is 5 guys good? Yes! Overall, it was a very good burger and actually better than a Bison burger I had in a restaurant recently.
