PEPPERMINT ORANGE BODY BUTTER RECIPE
3 oz. refined shea butter
.5 oz. kokum butter
.25 oz. white cosmetic beeswax
.35 oz. fractionated coconut oil
.1 oz. lanolin
.1 oz. kaolin clay (see notes in Step #4 for alternatives)
30-40 drops orange essential oil (where to buy essential oils online)
10-15 drops peppermint essential oil (where to buy essential oils online)
Using a digital scale, weigh out the shea butter, kokum butter, beeswax and lanolin into a double boiler.
Step # 2
Heat the ingredients over medium heat on the stove until melted.
If you don’t have a double boiler, you can also use a microwave at 40%, heating until melted.
Remove the melted butters, wax and lanolin from heat. Then weigh out the fractionated coconut oil and add to the mixture. Stir to combine the ingredients.
Next, weigh out the kaolin clay. Mix it into the previously heated ingredients until thoroughly incorporated.
(The kaolin clay is added to the peppermint orange body butter so it doesn’t feel greasy and absorbs into skin faster. If you don’t have kaolin, or white cosmetic, clay you can also use tapioca starch or arrowroot powder. Alternately it can also be omitted entirely.)
Finally, add the drops of both the orange and peppermint essential oils and stir into your body butter. (Learn where I shop for high quality therapeutic essential oils online.)
Feel free to add more drops of the orange and/or peppermint essential oils if you desire a stronger scent. Alternately, you can also substitute the orange essential oil with either lavender or lemongrass essential oil.
Or, try substituting the peppermint essential oil with spearmint!
Now pour your Peppermint Orange body butter into a container(s) of your choice and allow to solidify. These glass jars are my personal favorite (they make great gifts!). You can place your body butter in the refrigerator to speed up this process if desired.
Once solid, simply apply to skin as desired and massage in, making sure to avoid sensitive areas. (That peppermint can be potent!)
This peppermint orange body butter recipe yields 4.3 oz. of product by weight.
