LAVENDER MINT BODY BUTTER RECIPE
- 3 oz. refined shea butter
- .25 oz. cocoa butter
- .25 oz. emulsifying wax
- .25 oz. hemp seed oil
- .25 oz. fractionated coconut oil
- .05 oz. white kaolin clay
- 40 drops of lavender essential oil
- 20 drops of peppermint essential oil
Using a digital scale, weigh out the shea butter, cocoa butter and emulsifying wax. Combine in a medium glass bowl or glass Pyrex measuring cup then heat at 30% power in the microwave until melted. Alternately, you can also use a double boiler.
Tip: Heating cocoa butter and shea butter at low temperatures to melt them tempers the butter so they don’t become grainy.
Remove the melted wax and butters from heat then weigh out and stir in the hemp seed oil and fractionated coconut oil.
Next, using a fresh graduated transfer pipette for each ingredient, measure out the lavender and peppermint essential oil and stir into the melted body butter mixture.
Now weigh out the kaolin clay and whisk into the wet ingredients. Place the body butter in the refrigerator or freezer just until it starts to solidify. Then remove and whisk to reincorporate the clay evenly throughout the body butter. If desired you can whip the lavender mint body butter at this stage if desired.
Spoon the body butter into a 4 oz. container. Once fully solidified, screw on the lid then label as desired for personal use or gifting!
