A quick note about baobab oil:
I chose to include baobab oil in my natural dry skin salve recipe for several reasons. Not only is this versatile African carrier oil famed for its emollient and moisturizing skin care properties, but it’s also absorbed quickly by skin so there is no greasy after feel. Additionally, the presence of Omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids give baobab oil some beneficial anti-inflammatory properties and help to promote soft healthy skin.
Baobab oil is also a notable ingredient in skin care products for those who suffer from skin conditions such as eczema, dry psoriasis and actinic keratosis. So not only does baobab oil moisturize and nourish skin, but it’s also excellent at relieving itching associated with dry skin and other problem skin conditions. You’ll also find that baobab oil works as an insulator, protecting skin from both excessive high and low temperatures.
Following you’ll find my dry salve skin recipe. I hope you enjoy this fast absorbing dry skin salve as much as I do. And be sure to read to the end of the recipe for two other great options for using baobab oil.
DRY SKIN SALVE RECIPE
Using a digital scale, weigh out the beeswax, shea nut oil and baobab oil. Combine in a double boiler and gently heat until all of the beeswax has melted. (Alternately, you can also heat the ingredients in the microwave in a scientific glass beaker or Pyrex measuring cup at 30% power until melted.)
Remove from heat then, using a dropper or plastic transfer pipette, add the vitamin E oil along with the orange and ginger essential oils. Stir well to combine, then pour into a 2 oz. amber or cobalt jar.
Once the salve hardens it’s ready to use. Simply apply to hands, feet and other areas of dry skin on your body. You can also apply this salve to chapped lips.
More ways to use baobab oil:
In addition to my dry skin salve recipe, you can also use baobab oil as a bath oil or massage oil. Simply combine 1.25 oz. of baobab oil by weight with 9 drops of 5-fold orange essential oil and 6 drops of fresh ginger essential oil.
Pour the oil into bath water as desired for a luxurious bath oil or massage onto skin to gently soothe sore muscles.
