This DIY Fajita Seasoning Recipe is a wonderful homemade seasoning to have on hand in the kitchen. Not only is it more tasty and fresher than fajita seasoning from the store, it is also a great way to save some money. I’ve also included some tasty recipes that use this fajita seasoning mix.
WHY YOU SHOULD MAKE HOMEMADE FAJITA SEASONING
I’ve been more conscious of my food and trying to eat healthier. This means buying my spices and making my own spice mixes. I’ve already made my own copycat onion soup mix, chili seasoning, and ranch seasoning, taco seasoning, and Cajun seasoning mixes..
I like making my own seasoning mixes because it saves money, and they taste a lot better. I get quality herbs and spices from an Amish bulk food store, and they make all the difference in how my recipes taste. The higher the quality of your herbs and spices, the better your mix will be. You’re saving money on the seasoning packets, so the extra cost is well worth it.
A few weeks ago, my husband requested steak fajitas, but I didn’t have any fajita mix.
Since I make so many of my own seasoning mixes, I had all of the ingredients already. Even if you don’t have all of the spices and herbs, they are inexpensive to buy, and you’ll use them in more recipes. The ingredients are similar to a homemade taco seasoning mix recipe, so you can use them in both recipes to keep your pantry stocked.
Aside from the cost savings and better tasting fajita seasoning recipe, I also like to make my own mixes so I can customize the ingredients. If you want a spicier fajita seasoning mix, use more chili powder or you can even add some cayenne pepper. You can also cut back on the salt if you don’t like salty foods. I cut it back to 1/2 of a teaspoon because we don’t add a lot of salt when cooking.

Think outside the box and enjoy this homemade fajita seasoning mix recipe in MORE ways than just with fajitas! Consider adding the fajita spice mix to eggs, chicken, or even baked potatoes!

DIY Fajita Seasoning Mix Recipe
This DIY Fajita Seasoning Mix recipe is a wonderful homemade seasoning to have on hand in the kitchen. Not only is it more tasty and fresher than fajita seasoning from the store, it is also a great way to save some money.
Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Mix well.
Use immediately or store in an airtight container.
Use 1 tablespoon per pound of meat.
FAJITA BOWL RECIPE:
Simply cook steak or chicken in olive oil over medium heat. Then add veggies and sautee until soft. I like onion, green pepper, and sometimes corn. I also add black beans for some more protein and sometimes brown rice if I have some leftover from another recipe. Depending on how much meat I used, I add my homemade fajita mix recipe.
Scoop it into a bowl and top with cheese, sour cream, salsa, or avocado.
It's a very easy lunch to make, especially when I have leftover veggies and meat to use up.
TRADITIONAL FAJITAS RECIPE:
If you want to make traditional fajitas, make the mixture the same as for the fajita bowl recipe.
Spoon the fajita mixture onto a warm flour or corn tortilla shell, wrap, and serve.
